I was thinking about the things that make me feel happy, or satisfied, and often those things are in the food category, but I worked at trying to think about something that didn’t involve eating and remembered how good it felt to just visit a museum, art, historical, it didn’t matter. It is just fun to walk through the large spaces and see things of interest and, often, delight to the eye.
Many times there are days when it is free to the public to visit, and it is a refreshing change for most of us to take time slowly, meandering among the rooms of exhibits, thinking about the themes of life that are important enough to sculpt or paint, or manufacture in some way. I remember the fascination I had for Egyptian mummy cases, with their intricate and brightly painted hieroglyphics and faces from the ancient past. Thinking about how time stretches so far beyond our present existence. I remember looking through glass cases of bird nests and eggs, and seeing, with wonderment, how very tiny the hummingbirds were compared to the ostrich’s. There never seems to be enough time to see everything.
Art museums were always my very favorite places to visit. I have seen many improvements, especially in the areas dedicated to children. Those were fun for me, too! I think this week it is time to plan another visit to the museum, the perfect plan for cold winter days.
