On a chilly damp day, or anytime in the dark winter season, a hot soup is especially welcome. I have memories of my Grandmothers chicken soup, and there is a reason that “Chicken Soup for the Soul” is such an evocative title.

I don’t usually like to depend on suggesting that you get your mood lifted with food, because sometimes that is a problem when too much depended upon. Still, there are times when comfort foods are what we need. Good, healthy, comfort foods like hot soup can gives us satisfaction of the soul as well as nutrients. Homemade is best, but there are some very nice soups available on the grocers shelves.

Soup seems like something homey and old fashioned. Comfy kitchens and warm stoves. A good piece of whole grain bread to go along, and it sounds like just what one needs to combat the dim days and the winter nights.
