Sometimes it just feels good to get out. Out of the house, out of the rut, out of the daily grind. What good is the sunshine to us if we don’t go and sit in it once in awhile? You have to immerse yourself in life to fully enjoy it.Springtime is not the high point of most gardens, but it can be hope-inducing just to walk through a garden in the spring. All those little green sprouts promising a new season. I like going to public gardens, just to walk through the paths and sit on benches soaking up the sunshine. I don’t always make the time in the busy schedule of spring, but I think it is always worthwhile when I do. Inniswood garden in Columbus, Ohio is one of my favorites, as well as the old “Park of Roses”, Whetstone park. Dawes Arboretum is lovely at all times of year, but late spring holds the show in the “glen” full of azaleas. A walk in just about any park is rejuvenating. Public parks are some of the best spent tax money there is!
When you leave your usual schedule or environment it gives you a new perspective, you return with fresh eyes, a refreshed spirit of motivation. That is why vacations are so important, but when one doesn’t have time for a vacation, the occasional day trip or escaping during a part of the day just to explore something a little different can be just as re-creating on a smaller scale. Why wait for perfect times and some future “maybe”? Sometimes you can find small treasures of “perfect times” while walking through a nearby park or a different neighborhood.
If it is not the season to smell the roses…why not enjoy the cherry blossoms? Fleeting, but exquisite.
