OOOO, I Love The New Twenty Fifteen Theme!

I decided to change this blog to the new Twelve Fifteen Theme that came out with the WordPress update. It is big and clear and very user friendly.

I like everything about it so far, and it was so cool to have that social sharing menu. The links are added and the icons automatically appear on the navigation menu. So convenient!

The large size font is very readable and obviously this theme has been made to give mobile viewers pride of place. Those are features for now, and I am thrilled with the way it looks and works.

I have paid for themes to use on my site, but I love this one so well, I will look to use it elsewhere, maybe in the Advent Blog. No changes while the main Christmas season advances, but look for this to happen in 2015.

WordPress Just Gets Better

The whole platform of WordPress just gets better and better in my opinion. It becomes ever easier to use and less buggy. Features are geared towards how I actually use it, and the writing part of blogging is facilitated.

That last asset is the one that is impacting me the most. It isn’t just the core, but the whole WP community. Discovering new plugins that are gamechangers and expecting the whole package to really create more writing time. The recipe plugins I’ve been looking at, a premium plugin for adding Amazon products, reading lists, review plugins… they all combine to make my writing easier by formatting things to automatically serve the content to my readers , in ways they can find and use it.

And that is what it is all about. I think as I use them, I will be reviewing the plugins on my Hubpages and on this site.

While I wouldn’t qualify as a fangirl, and I am always trying to find whatever is best for the job, WP has become increasingly what I like to use and gives me the best results in my blogs. This new update for 2015 has caused it to leap forward, IMO.

While this “WebHelp” blog has stayed with the Twelve Fifteen Theme, I switched the main site, Ilona’s Reflecting Pool to the Divi theme that I use on my Gardening site.

To help with design I use the plugins that expand the editing choices :

  • Styles by Paul Clark …and
  • Styles: TwentyFifteen by Dimitris33

I also use this on my “Old House blog“, which will most likely stick with that look even after reviving the writing on it (it is on hiatus). so for a number of years I have liked this particular theme.

Do you like the way this blog looks, now? Is it too vanilla, or do you like the minimalistic, clean design?

Pages Here

I completely left off renewing this site ( back in 200y) after I ventured forth with developing the garden site, Ilona’s Garden.

Once geocities closed, I had been working hardest to continue my garden writing. Yet, this ‘Reflecting Pool’ is the oldest part of what I wanted to share with the world. There were always quotations pages, and the garden roses topic had two pages of poems attached. Those are now the most visited part of the site, The Rose Poems Page. I love all the types of pages that I had begun, and will be bringing them all back together in this one place.

Part of that goal reults from the fact that it makes good sense, and part is because I am just one person. With the burst of new media: facebook, twitter, linkedin, pinterest, etc et al ad infinitum…. the many blogs that were started are too much for one person, now. It is all the way life works: gardens change, family life changes, we change, and the way that once worked well or held promise is not the way that is practicable now.

Innovation or revision, or reversion – these are all ways that we adapt and that is what these blogs are in the midst of doing. The one thing that remains is the vision of producing things that are beautiful and uplifting, and sharing life experience. The hope that we can impart something to each other over the means of the internet is the overriding intention.

If you are starting a blog or want to begin writing in one of the communities like Squidoo, or Hubpages, tips and opinions are forthcoming on the blog, WebHelp. That is also part of this site and one of the original topics of “Ilona’s Reflecting Pool”.

The Childbirth Pages are here, though it is true that they haven’t been added to in awhile, but the basic information is perennial.

I look forward to creating a body of pages here that will reflect more of the beauty of life and add some of that beauty to your experience.

Happy Thoughts…..Why?

The original intent for my website was to focus on the positives of life as expressed by the theme of my page is one point from a bible text,

Philippians 4:8

“whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, if there be any praise, think on these things”

I felt there ought to be a place where you can go when you need happy thoughts.

I had already developed my truegrit blog into a place where I could address disturbing issues if need be…. but I somehow lost that mental and spiritual place of focusing on the positive.

 

So here is…. for your pleasure and mine, “Happy Thoughts”.

Happy Thoughts as it was on blogspot was folded into this site.

Here is where only things that somehow uplift or solace or rejoice the heart will be found. Whatever I deem it be at that particular moment. So, in a sense, it will be recording my idea of happiness. Sometimes something to eat, and sometimes a favorite quote, and sometimes just me having ….you know what I am going to say:) ….. HAPPY THOUGHTS.
